Lost all data
Please help! I have been working on my workspace for 2 weeks- with the visualos tab always open. For some reason today, it suddenly refreshed and deleted everything (showing ‘welcome! create new folder). I can’t find my old workspace or any of the folders. How do I get it back?

Hi,
I'm really sorry, losing two weeks of work is an awful feeling. Let's try to get it back together.
Some background: visualOS has no account and no server, so your work is never stored with us. Without a linked folder, it lives only in your browser on this device. visualOS doesn't delete it on its own. If you see the welcome screen, the app is showing storage that doesn't contain your work. That leaves two likely explanations, and both are quick to check:
1. You may be in another workspace. Click the workspace name at the top left (coloured dot with a small arrow, e.g. "My Workspace"). If more than one workspace is listed there, click the other one, and your folders should be back.
2. Your browser may have removed the site's data. This can happen after a browser or computer restart if the browser deletes cookies and site data on close, after a cleanup tool has run, in a private/incognito window, or if the page was opened in a different browser or profile. You can check whether your browser still keeps data for my.visualos.app:
- Chrome: Settings → Privacy and security → Site settings → View permissions and data stored across sites → search for "visualos"
- Safari on Mac: Safari → Settings → Privacy → Manage Website Data → search for "visualos"
- Firefox: Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data → Manage Data
- Another browser or an iPad: tell us which one and we'll send you the steps.
Please don't remove anything there. Just tell us what it shows.
It would also help to know:
- your device and browser (e.g. Windows + Chrome, Mac + Safari)
- whether your browser or computer restarted around that time
- whether you ever used "Export backup" (a file named visualos-backup-….json in your Downloads folder)
- whether your computer has a backup, such as Time Machine
If the data is still in your browser, we'll walk you through getting it back. If the browser deleted it, a backup file or a computer backup from before today is the way back, and we'll help you step by step. Until then, please don't clear your browsing data.
Best,
Gerald
